"Harry Potter" spinoff "Fantastic Beasts" begins filming in UK

Production begins on "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them". The "Harry Potter" spinoff kicks off the filming August 17 at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, in England under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four "Harry Potter" feature films, AceShowbiz reports.

Inspired by Hogwarts textbook of the same name, the film is scripted by J.K. Rowling. It follows Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), the wizarding world's preeminent magizoologist who stops in New York following his travels to find and document magical creatures.

The movie is set for a November 18, 2016 release in the United States. It's supported by the likes of Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Jenn Murray, Faith Wood-Blagrove, and Colin Farrell.

Aside from a spinoff, J.K. Rowling also produces a stage musical titled "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" that will explore an "untold part of Harry's life." It is expected to hit London stage sometime next year.
