Amy, the film based on the life of the late Amy Winehouse, has become the second biggest documentary ever at the UK box office, Gigwise reports.

Having grossed £3.44 million, it surpassed the critically acclaimed Senna (£3.17 million) and March Of The Penguins (£3.3 million), but is some way behind Fahrenheit 9/11 which grossed £6.5 million.

In a statement, the film's producer James Gay-Rees said: "It feels like the country has fallen in love with her all over again and it is hugely satisfying to have helped create a more rounded picture of someone who was so massively misunderstood when she was here. It was a massive honour to have been given the chance to tell her story."

Winehouse passed away at the age of 27 in 2011.

Earlier this week, Amy Winehouse's father, Mitch, discussed the possibility that the singer may have been pregnant prior to her death.
