iPhone 6S 12-megapixel camera “confirmed”

Another day, another iPhone 6S rumour, this time about the kind of camera the handset will be packing. Previous rumours suggest that Apple is boosting the device's megapixel count, and a supply-chain source has told Business Insider that this is indeed true, Digital Spy reports.

The source claims the iPhone 6S camera will pack a larger sensor that can take in more light, and a five-element lens designed to work with the improved sensor.

The 8-megapixel camera on the iPhone 6 also has a five-element lens, but the new snapper is said to be made from higher-specification components.

Apple's next iPhone is also expected to include a Force Touch display that is capable of distinguishing between brief taps and longer presses, as well as an A9 processor.

The Cupertino firm is expected to announce its next iPhones at a press conference on September 9 ahead of its release later that month.
