Bruce Willis has dropped out of Woody Allen's next movie due to a schedule clash with his Broadway debut, Digital Spy reports citing Deadline.

Willis will be starring as writer Paul Sheldon in the stage adaptation of Stephen King's Misery.

The actor had apparently forgotten to check his schedule before shooting on the untitled film began, and Allen will now recast the role to keep production on his movie running to time.

He will wave goodbye to would-be co-stars Blake Lively, Parker Posey, Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg and Corey Stoll.

Misery opens at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City on October 22 for previews, and is booking until February 2016.

Laurie Metcalf, a triple Emmy Award winner for Roseanne, stars opposite Willis in the thriller.
