Azerbaijani armed forces continuously violated the ceasefire at the line of contact with Nagorno Karabakh on Wednesday, September 2, a spokesperson for the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.

According to Artsrun Hovhannisyan, Azeri troops first opened fire on the military posts and went on shelling border villages, RFE/RL Armenian service reports.

"There are basically 20 villages in that area, and all of them were shelled to some extent. The Armenian side took retaliatory measures, silencing the attacks. No casualties were reported in army units, and corresponding authorities will comment on the possible civilian losses. The situation at contact line is relatively calm and under constant control by the Armenian armed forces," Hovhannisyan said.

Two inhabitants of Koti village were wounded, according to Feliks Melikyan, the village chief. Their condition is stable, he said.

Two contract servicemen of the Armenian Armed Forces were wounded Tuesday, September 1, as Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire on Armenia's north-eastern defense positions and villages, including Berd (Tavush province). One of the wounded servicemen had to undergo surgery. He was hospitalized with a penetrating abdominal trauma and transferred to Yerevan Central Hospital after the surgery. The other wounded soldier was taken to a patient ward after his wound was dressed.
