Samsung embracing Blu-ray field advancements with UHD player launch

Samsung is embracing the latest advancements in the Blu-ray field with the launch of a new player that supports Ultra HD discs, Digital Spy reports.

The perfect accessory to sit beneath your 4K telly, Samsung's first Ultra HD Blu-ray Player is capable of upscaling regular Blu-rays for UDH displays.

UHD Blu-ray offers four times the quality of standard discs with 64 times the colour expression, a higher frame rate of up to 60fps, and a top resolution of 3,840 x 2,160.

Samsung's new player has a stylish, curved design, similar to that of the tech giant's curved UHD televisions.

The Blu-ray Disc Association only began licensing UHD discs last month, so a shortage of content is an issue, although 20th Century Fox has confirmed that all of its most recent home releases will support the format.

This will include movies like Kingsman: The Secret Service, The Maze Runner, and Fantastic Four - nobody can guarantee the latter will be any better in UHD.

The player also supports 4K streaming services, so you won't be stuck with nothing to watch on it.
