Sam Smith breaks album chart record

It's congratulations to The Weeknd, who has topped the Official Albums Chart for the first time with Beauty Behind the Madness, Digital Spy said.

The Canadian singer's second album goes straight to number one, having fended off competition from Foals.

Elsewhere, Jess Glynne's I Cry When I Laugh is at two, while Foals' What Went Down enters at three.

Ella Eyre is also new at four with her debut album Feline.

It was a hugely significant week for Sam Smith, whose 2014 debut album In the Lonely Hour - which is up one place to five - set a chart record by going 67 consecutive weeks in the Official Albums Chart Top 10.

The record was previously held by Emeli Sande's Our Version of Events.

Meanwhile, Halsey is new at 9 with Badlands, Motörhead arrive at 10 with Bad Magic and Beach House are new at 17 with their new album Depression Cherry.
