Night of September 7-8 relatively calm at Armenian-Azeri border

The situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border was relatively calm on the night of September 7/8, Armenia's Foreign Ministry press office representative said.

According to Mushegh Aghekyan, only some random shots were fired by Azeri troops, RFE/RL Armenian service reports.

Armenian armed units continue controlling the situation along the entire border.

Azerbaijani armed forces violated the ceasefire at the line of contact with Nagorno Karabakh Republic on August 30-September 5.

According to Nagorno Karabakh Republic Defense Ministry, 1000 ceasefire violations by Azeri armed forces were registered in the reporting period, with around 14,000 shots fired from various caliber weapons, including 60-, 82- and 120mm mortars, RPG-7 and HAN-17 grenade launchers. Azeri troops have been using infantry support guns and artillery weapons lately, something that the Azerbaijani propaganda attempts unsuccessfully to deny.
