Joseph Gordon-Levitt's extended IMAX trailer for the upcoming Philippe Petit biopic The Walk will have you on the edge of your seat, Digital Spy said.

Director Robert Zemeckis's drama tells the inspiring and harrowing story of high-wire artist Petit's quest to walk between the roofs of the World Trade Centre towers.

The real-life event became a media sensation back in 1974, as Petit risked his life to pull off the daring feat.

Gordon-Levitt stars as the French daredevil, while Sir Ben Kingsley plays the advisor whose demands for Petit to take safety precautions fall on deaf ears.

Petit's hire-wire walk across the World Trade Centre towers was previously captured on film in the BAFTA and Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire.

The Walk opens in U.S. cinemas on September 30.
