Facebook updates Notes tool to help users blog

Facebook wants its users to get back into blogging, so it's updated its underused Notes tool to help them express their random ramblings online, according to Digital Spy.

The revamp makes Notes more visually appealing on the web and mobile, with a range of new formatting options and prominent cover photos and headers.

"Notes are now an even better way to write a longer post and share with anyone - whether it's a small group of friends or everyone on Facebook," said Facebook engineer Isaac Salier-Hellendag.

Facebook clearly has ambitions to challenge the likes of Medium in the blogging space, as the firm is offering a few suggestions to help you get started.

Zuckerberg and co suggest recapping your summer holiday, expressing your opinion on something in the news or sharing a delicious recipe with your friends.

The world of social media was dominated by blogging sites at the turn of the millennium, when services like Blogger and LiveJournal ruled the roost.
