Turkey seeks cooperation with Eurasian Economic Union

Turkey wants to boost cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the country’s Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci told his Kazakh counterpart, Yerbolat Dosayev.

“Besides, the Turkish Minister expressed interest in participating in Nurly Zhol state program projects, as well as modernization of Aktau seaport,” a Kazakhstan Economy Ministry statement reads.

The parties also discussed trade and economic relations, as well as investment cooperation between the two countries.

It is worth mentioning that Turkey and Armenia, an EEU member state itself, have no diplomatic relations.

In 1993 Turkey reacted to the war in Nagorno Karabakh by closing its borders with Armenia in token of support for Azerbaijan.

Armenia has repeatedly offered to open the border without preconditions and has even initiated the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations in 2008, with the diplomatic efforts, however, failing due to Turkey’s position.
