A lawsuit calling for 5-year jail term was filed against Diyarbakir Mayor Gultan Kisanak, who recognized the Armenian Genocide, Armenia Today reports citing Demokrathaber.net.

The reason behind the lawsuit was her declaration at a March 8 parade where she stated that “women’s coup is underway in Kurdistan.”

She has repeatedly made statements on the Armenian Genocide.

“We will never forget. Deep in our hearts we feel this tragedy, the massacre, the genocide. We do not want to continue our journey with this tragedy, as time to heal the wounds has come. We condemn the Genocide,” Kisanak said at a memorial ceremony on the Genocide centennial.
