Warlick hopes presidential meeting will boost Karabakh settlement

OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs will travel to the region later this month to meet with the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan and arrange their next joint meeting, U.S. Co-chair James Warlick said, according to Trend.az.

“We hope their meeting will contribute to the negotiation process and stabilization of the situation along the line of contact between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan,” Warlick said.

The Co-chair also said Armenia’s recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh independence could lead to a dangerous military response by Azerbaijan.

“Both Armenia and Azerbaijan have committed to a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” he said.

He noted that the situation is tense in the region, warning the sides against taking steps that would lead to further escalation.
