First phone to get Android Marshmallow update revealed

The first third-party handset to receive the eagerly-awaited Android Marshmallow update has been announced, with LG G4 owners set to be the lucky recipients, Digital Spy reports.

With Android 6.0 Marshmallow set to launch aboard the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P in the coming days, LG has confirmed the LG G4 will add the substantial patch starting next week.

Instead, the LG G4 Android M update will be rolled out to users in Poland first, with a broader European, Asian and American rollout to continue in the weeks that follow.

Last year, Polish LG G3 owners received the Android 5.0 update in November, with UK residents not adding the update until February.

Android Marshmallow brings a number of new features and improvements to Google's dominant mobile OS, with battery-boosting tweaks being added alongside Android Pay support.
