Ex-ambassador pessimistic about Armenian, Azeri Presidents’ meeting

The upcoming meeting between the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan will result in nothing, U.S. ex-ambassador to Azerbaijan told Trend news agency.

“It is impossible to achieve peace when the parties do not trust each other,” Matthew Bryza said. “I don’t think the meeting will result in anything, but it must be held anyway to create trust-building atmosphere, which in itself is a complex and lengthy process.”

According to Bryza, Russia is not interested in resolving the conflict and is satisfied with the “no peace, no war” strategy that allows it to manipulate the parties.

Armenia, Bryza says, should reduce its dependence on Russia, Russian investments and energy.
