EP Vice-President says Armenia matters to EU

It is necessary to clarify the platform of relations between Armenia and the European Union (EU), Vice-President of the European Parliament said in an interview with Tert.am.

“This is a favorable moment for a new stage of Armenia-EU relations, with Brussels set to present a new package of a bilateral agreement soon,” Ryszard Czarnecki said. “The agreement may differ from the Association Agreement, but it will envisage new approaches for the sides to progress.”

Czarnecki believes Armenia and the EU should start from economic contacts, and that Armenia supports cooperation, though not without Russia’s involvement. According to him, the Armenia’s economic and political interests depend on Armenia itself, but he is confident, however, that the country’s deep ties with Russia will not hinder the new agreement with the EU.

Armenians are well aware that cooperation with the EU will benefit the country, he says.
