Genesis Rodriguez lands female lead in “True Memoirs of an Int’l Assassin”

Genesis Rodriguez has landed the female lead opposite Kevin James in Netflix’s “True Memoirs of an International Assassin”, sources tell Variety.

Jeff Wadlow will direct. Kevin Frakes, Todd Garner, Raja Collins and Justin Begnaud are producing along with Palmstar. Shooting will begin in November in Atlanta and the Dominican Republic.

The script was penned by Jeff Morris and first appeared on the Black List.

In the comedy, James plays an accountant mistaken for an assassin when a novel he’s writing is accidentally published as nonfiction, forcing him to flee to Belize. Rodriguez will play a DEA agent who rescues Kevin’s character from his drug dealer captors, blowing her cover in the process.

Netflix recently acquired the distribution rights at the Cannes Film Festival and under the deal, “True Memoirs of an International Assassin” will bow in 2016 exclusively on the streaming service.

Rodriguez was most recently seen in Warner Bros.’ “Run All Night” opposite Liam Neeson and previously appeared in Kevin Smith’s “Tusk” and Disney’s “Big Hero Six.” Other past credits include “Man on a Ledge” and “Identity Thief.”
