OSCE seeks meeting between Armenian, Azeri leaders by yearend

The OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs are seeking to organize a meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents by the end of this year, the U.S. Co-Chair told reporters on Monday, October 26, according to Tert.am.

“The Co-chairs have little time to specify the Presidents’ business schedule and organize a meeting,” James Warlick said.

On arriving in Armenia, the Co-chairs are set to hold a meeting with Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and leave for Nagorno-Karabakh on Tuesday.

The goal behind the co-chairs’ regional visit is to specify the details of a meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents.

The co-chairs were briefed on the constitutional referendum in Armenia scheduled for December 6. The presidential meeting, therefore, is likely to follow it.

After meetings with high-ranking officials of Nagorno Karabakh, the Co-chairs will cross the line of contact to Azerbaijan. A wide range of issues, including ceasefire violations, border escalation and use of heavy weapons are on the agenda both in Armenia and Azerbaijan.
