Elizabeth Banks returns to helm "Pitch Perfect 3" hit comedy sequel

After months of speculation, it is finally confirmed that Elizabeth Banks has officially signed on to direct "Pitch Perfect 3". She is producing along with her husband, Max Handelman, and Gold Circle topper Paul Brooks, AceShowbiz reports.

Banks starred in the previous two films and made her directorial debut with the second one. Previously it has been confirmed that Brittany Snow, Anna Kendrick, and Rebel Wilson would be all returning to star in the upcoming third installment of the musical franchise. Banks herself has openly expressed her enthusiasm when the third movie was announced. "It's on," tweeted the actress.

Based on Mickey Rapkin's book "Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory," the first film "Pitch Perfect" was a sleeper hit when it came out in 2012. It ended up raking in over a million dollars against a mere budget of $17 million. The sequel, "Pitch Perfect 2", became the highest-grossing musical comedy film with over $282 million gross.
