Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's personal driver, who has served him for over 20 years, was elected as MP in the November 1 parliamentary election, Radikal daily reports, according to Today's Zaman.

Ahmet Hamdi Camlı, who reportedly worked on a voluntary basis for Erdogan, was elected as MP for Istanbul from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party).

Camlı failed the June 7 parliamentary election as he stood at 16th place on the AK Party's list of candidates for Istanbul's second electoral region. Camlı was then moved to the 13th place for the November 1 election.

Camlı first began serving Erdogan when the latter was running for Istanbul mayor in 1994. Before that, Camlı worked as the personal driver of former Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan, who is considered to be Erdogan's political “teacher.”
