“The Scent of Rain and Lightning” novel adaptation adds cast

Logan Miller (“Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse”), Mark Webber (“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”), Will Patton (“Falling Skies”) Bonnie Bedelia (“Die Hard”), Justin Chatwin (“Shameless”) and Aaron Poole (“The Samaritan”) have joined the cast of the indie movie “The Scent of Rain and Lightning”, TheWrap has learned.

Maika Monroe, Maggie Grace and Brad Carter star in the feature adaptation of Nancy Pickard’s book, which is currently filming in central Oklahoma.

Veteran actor Blake Robbins (“The Sublime and Beautiful”) is directing the film, which follows a young woman who learns her parents’ killer has recently been released from jail, forcing her to revisit old wounds and realize both the destructive power of hate and the true cost of family secrets.

Casey Twenter, Jeff Robison and Jeff Johnson of No Coast Entertainment, Kevin Waller of Gerson Productions, Michael Davis and Grace are producing the film, which is being executive produced by Dan Koetting and Carolyn Paul.

“The Scent of Rain and Lightning” takes advantage of Oklahoma’s Film Enhancement Rebate, which offers a cash rebate of 35-to-37 percent on qualifying Oklahoma expenditures to film and television productions filming in the state. Production will take place in Guthrie, OK and Okarche, OK.

As producers and screenwriters, Robison and Twenter are best known for “Rudderless,” the directorial debut of William H. Macy that debuted at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival before selling to Paramount and Samuel Goldwyn Co. for theatrical and home distribution.
