Armenian team defeats Norway at European Team Chess Championship

Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian beat the reigning world chess champion Magnus Carlsen in the 3rd round of European Team Chess Championship helping his team to a 2.5 – 1.5 victory over Norway.

At the Reykjavik-hosted championship, the Armenian team – Aronian, Gabriel Sargissian, Sergei Movsesian and Hrant Melkumyan - gained a 4-0 victory over Iceland, further losing 1.5-2.5 to France in the first two rounds, Armenia's Chess Federation reports.

Meanwhile, Melkumyan beat Frode Urkedal, Sargissian drew with Ludvig Hammer, while Melkumian lost to Aryan Tari during the Round 3 game.
