Samsung claims booming smartwatch sales

Between the launch of the Apple Watch and the rise of Android Wear, the smartwatch movement has gained serious momentum in 2015, Digital Spy reports.

Samsung has shed light on the extent of its growth by telling TechRadar that its smartwatch sales are "up several hundred percent up on last year".

And the firm's vice president of mobile and IT Conor Pierce is confident that wearable tech will only become more useful going forward.

The executive believes that the future potential of connected timepieces lies in the connected home.

"Smartwatches will only become more useful. Thinking about smart home going forward, you'll be able to use it as a remote control for your home," he said.

"The entire Samsung portfolio will, in a few years time, be 100% connected."

Samsung's latest attempt at a smartwatch is the Apple Watch-rivalling Gear S2, which runs Tizen and has a rotating bezel.
