With 173 in favor votes and 2 abstained, the Argentinean Parliament recognized the Armenian Genocide on November 29, 2006. Argentina is the second country of the South-American continent (first was Uruguay) to qualify the Armenian case of Genocide. The law authorizes the employees of public organizations of Armenian origin to have a day off on April 24 to assist and to take part in activities relating to the commemoration of the tragedy. It also establishes that pupils of Armenian origin of the primary and secondary public schools will be able to go away on this same date.
