Thailand receives Russia's warning of possible Islamic State attack

Thai police say they have received a warning from Russia's state security agency that 10 Syrians who may be linked to the Islamic State group could stage attacks in Thailand on targets associated with Russia and other foes of the militants, the Associated Press reports.

National police deputy spokesman Col. Songpol Wattanachai confirmed to journalists the authenticity of a leaked police memo mentioning the warning. But he said Friday, December 4, that the information is an unconfirmed intelligence report.

The Thai capital was the target of a terrorist bombing in August that killed 20 people, but it was apparently unrelated to the IS.

There have been few signs of IS activity in Thailand, though it actively recruits volunteers from its Southeast Asian neighbors Malaysia and Indonesia.
