24.26% of voters cast ballots in constitutional referendum as of 2 pm

As of 2 pm, 622 643 (24.26%) people have voted in the December 6 referendum on constitutional amendments in Armenia.

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), 196 596 (23.24%) voters cast ballots in Yerevan.

In Armenia’s provinces, the votes were cast as follows: Aragatsotn – 30 019 (26.02 %,) Ararat – 66 341 (30.46 %,) Armavir – 57 391 (25%,) Gehgarkunik – 43 721 (23.27% ,) Lori – 52 333 (21.98%,) Kotayk – 54 769 (23.25%,) Shirak – 43 359 (18.81%,) Syunik – 37 073 (33.87 %,) Vayots Dzor – 13 321 (28.25%,) Tavush – 27 720 (25.32 %.)

Voting on amendments to Constitution has started today, December 6. 1997 polling stations opened across the republic at 8 am local time, set to close at 8 pm. The total number of voters is 2 550 323.

18 local and 6 international organizations are monitoring the referendum, including: CIS observer mission, CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, foreign Central Election Committees, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODHIR), representatives of foreign embassies accredited to Armenia.

The December 6 referendum is the third one in the history of independent Armenia, envisaging a transition from the semi-presidential system of government to a parliamentary one.
