President Sargsyan, Greek Defense Minister talk military cooperation

President Serzh Sargsyan met Thursday, December 17 with the Greek Minister for National Defense Panos Kammenos, the President’s press office reports.

At the meeting, the President expressed hope that the Greek Minister will have productive meetings in Yerevan, giving a new impetus to bilateral cooperation in the sector of defense, which has traditionally been one of the cornerstones of Armenian-Greek relations.

Also, Sargsyan stressed the importance of the role of Greece in the context of Armenia-EU and Armenia-NATO relations. The President welcomed the regular reciprocal visits between the Defense Ministries of the two countries, enabling to address prospects of cooperation in bilateral as well as multilateral formats.

The Greek Minister, in turn, thanked the President for the warm welcome he received in Armenia and the country’s readiness to develop cooperation in the sector of defense. He assured the President that productive cooperation has already been established with Armenia’s Ministry of Defense. Also, the Minister noted that the Armenian-Greek military and technical cooperation will continue to grow through mutual efforts, including sectors of military education and peacekeeping.

At the meeting, the parties dwelled upon regional and international security issues, as well as the current stage of the Karabakh peace process.
