L.A.-based distributor Strand Releasing has acquired all U.S. rights to Greek up-and-comer Athina Rachel Tsangari’s critically-acclaimed “Chevalier”, a satirical comedy which world premiered at Locarno and played at Toronto and New York film festivals, Variety reports.

Sold by The Match Factory, “Chevalier” turns on six men who get stuck on a luxury yacht in the Aegean sea because of mechanical problem and start challenging each other to determine who is “the Best in General.”

Strand Releasing, which previously released Tsangari’s “Attenberg” and her short “Capsule,” will release “Chevalier” in the Spring.

A leading light of new Greek cinema, Tsangari was recently honored as the New York film festival’s 2015 Artist in Residence and had previous films for a special evening at Lincoln Center.

“(Tsangari) is an absolute delight to collaborate with and we know ‘Chevalier’ will be met with both critical and commercial interest,” said Hu.

“I feel fortunate that my films are being shepherded to U.S. audiences by one of the oldest, lasting bastions of international cinema, and to be having so much fun doing it because these guys are true blue,” said Tsangari.

Deal was done between Jon Gerrans and Marcus Hu of Strand Releasing and Thania Dimitrakopoulou of The Match Factory.

Shingle’s roster includes Fatih Akin’s “The Cut,” Ulrich Seidl’s “In The Basement,” Laura Bispuri’s “Sworn Virgin” and Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s “Cemetery of Splendor” which will screen at Sundance.
