Serbian filmmaker, musician and actor Emir Kusturica has arrived in Armenia to give a concert in Yerevan Friday, December 25, Tert.am reports.

“Always united, Armenians take a collective stance on the Genocide,” Kusturica said. “My nation that has been regularly attacked, is not united. So every time I come here I feel the Armenians’ unanimity.”

According to the filmmaker, everything is transparent in Armenia.

“When I was in Turkey 3-4 years ago, nobody welcomed my position on the Armenian Genocide. I told them they were not to determine my stance on the issue as they had murdered some 1.5 million Armenian in early 20th century,” he said.

According to Kusturica, a Swiss filmmaker who had been mistaken for himself had been beaten in Turkey.

Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Culture Nerses Ter-Vardanyan, in turn, stressed the importance of the artist’s concert on the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

Cannes Film Festival award-winning filmmaker’s last stopover in Armenia was in March 2010, during which he visited Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide memorial to honor memory of the victims of the tragedy.
