"Game of Thrones" season 6 is yet to premiere, but talks about season 7 and 8 have already been going on. HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California on Thursday, January 7 that the network's nearing a deal for a two-season renewal of the popular drama series, AceShowbiz reports.

HBO wanting more seasons of "Thrones" is no surprise since the show has been a worldwide hit. The fifth season finale delivered the show's largest audience ever with an average of 8.11 million viewers.

There's no word if seasons 7 and 8 will be the last for the show. Lombardo said back in July, "David and Dan are feeling there's probably two more years after season 6, that's what we're looking at right now. We hope that they would change their mind, but that's how they are feeling now."

HBO recently announced that the sixth season of "Thrones" would kick off Sunday, April 24 at 9/8c.
