H1N1 swine flu virus claims 16 lives in Armenia

Despite the doctors’ ten-day efforts, 2 more people died from H1N1 swine flu virus in Armenia, the Ministry of Health said Monday, January 18.

The patients were admitted to the hospital with bilateral pneumonia on January 9. Both were in critical condition, one of them also diagnosed with cardiopulmonary insufficiency.

16 people have died from the virus overall.

Between 2009 and 2014, annual death rate from pneumonia amounted to 450-500 people; the majority died in winter months. Thanks to the Ministry’s numerous calls, people have become more vigilant this year.

As of January 18, 7 patients are placed on ventilators.
