Lavrov denies Russia proposed new document on Karabakh settlement

Russia hasn’t posed the adoption of any new documents on the principles of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, RIA Novosti cited the Russian Foreign Minister as saying on Tuesday, January 26.

According to Sergey Lavrov, there are only a handful of documents on the conflict.

“The OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs have prepared around 5 documents at different stages of the negotiations on the Karabakh conflict,” Lavrov said. “The mediators adopted the basic principles of conflict settlement as a first step to later prepare a peace agreement that would be legally binding, and not of political nature.”

The Minister reminded that after a pause in the conflict settlement process, the two sides have resumed diplomatic contacts "to find acceptable solutions."
