Jerry Bruckheimer teases “Top Gun 2” in new pic with Tom Cruise

It looks like “Top Gun 2” might actually be getting made after years of speculation about the sequel to Tom Cruise‘s 1986 action film, TheWrap said.

Jerry Bruckheimer, one of the producers of “Top Gun,” took to Twitter to give fans a glimmer of hope that Maverick might actually fly again.

“Just got back from a weekend in New Orleans to see my old friend @TomCruise and discuss a little Top Gun 2,” Bruckheimer tweeted.

Fans commented on the producer’s tweet, expressing their excitement while also suggesting their picks for a director. J.J. Abrams seemed to be the people’s top choice.

In November, Val Kilmer, who played Iceman in the iconic 1986 film, took to Facebook to announce that he’d been offered a role in the sequel. A spokeswoman would not confirm that Kilmer has been offered a role in the sequel, although she did confirm the project is in development.

In 2011, Cruise said that “we’re working on it,” and that he hopes “we can figure this out to do it again.” Then, in July, the actor told Extra that a sequel would “be fun to do.

“If I can figure it out, if all of us can figure it out, it’d be fun to do,” he said. “I’d like to fly those jets again, but we’ve got to do all the jets practical — no CGI on the jets.”

Representatives for Bruckheimer or Cruise have not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.
