Poland wants EU to guarantee equal treatment to all member states

Poland's new Foreign Minister says the nation wants the European Union to guarantee equal treatment to all member states, especially now, when the bloc is facing multiple crises threatening its unity, the Associated Press reports.

Making his policy speech in the parliament on Friday, Jan 29, Witold Waszczykowski said the EU has been hit by crises in security, on its borders and in the idea of the union itself. Poland wants to participate in overcoming them.

Waszczykowski also said that Poland is expecting NATO to offer it tangible guarantees of security at a time of increased activity by a resurgent Russia. Warsaw expects a greater U.S. role in the region's security.

Waszczykowski said Poland will maintain a more independent policy within the EU than before, while countering any attempts at divisions that would threaten Poland's interests.
