Universal acquires Imogen Poots, Michael Shannon’s “Frank And Lola”

Universal has acquired most of the rights for $2 million for the drama “Frank And Lola”, starring Imogen Poots and Michael Shannon, following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, according to Variety.

Justin Long, Michael Nyqvist, Emmanuelle Devos and Rosanna Arquette also star. The film is the directorial debut of Matthew Ross, a former consultant on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and managing editor of Filmmaker magazine.

The story follows the love affair between a Las Vegas chef and a promising fashion designer that is badly derailed when the woman’s past and present demons resurface. Nyqvist portrays a man from Lola’s past.

The film is described as a psychosexual noir love story set in Las Vegas and Paris about love, obsession, sex, betrayal, revenge and ultimately the search for redemption.

Producers are Parts & Labor’s Jay Van Hoy and Lars Knudsen, Lola Pictures’ Chris Ramirez, John Baker and Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and David Hinojosa.

Universal will either release the film under its Focus Features label or through a third-party distributor for theatrical. The deal was brokered by CAA and Preferred Content, and Arclight handled foreign rights.

Arclight picked up the international rights a year ago at the Berlin Film Festival. News about the Universal deal was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
