Twitter rolling out GIF button, native support

After testing the feature with select users a few weeks ago, Twitter has officially announced that starting Wednesday, February 17 searchable GIFs will be rolling out over the coming weeks to iOS, Android and twitter.com, Engadget reports.

The animated images will be searchable via keywords or by browsing categories from within the status-update window. Just click on the new GIF button.

The GIF search feature is powered via partnerships with Giphy and Riffsy. Both companies host animated images and have their own GIF-sharing apps. While Twitter hasn't announced any deals with content makers, Riffsy has partnered with Sony pictures, 20th Century Fox, Disney and others.

A nice bonus of the new feature is that direct messages now support GIFS.
