Richard Linklater's Everybody Wants Some is shifting its release strategy, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Instead of opening nationwide April 15, the movie will roll out in select theaters on April 1 before expanding over the course of the following two weekends, Paramount announced.

In a twinned move, the studio is pushing back the release of horror film Rings from April 1 to Oct. 28, closer to the Halloween holiday.

Everybody Wants Some is Linklater's first film since the Oscar-nominated Boyhood. It makes sense that Paramount would decide to treat Everybody Wants Some as a specialty title and give it a platform release, allowing word of mouth to build.

Centered around a college baseball team in the 1980s, the dramedy revolves around a group of freshmen players. Blake Jenner, Ryan Guzman, Wyatt Russell, Tyler Hoechlin and Zoey Deutch star.

Linklater also wrote the script for Everybody Wants Some, which will make its world premiere in March at SXSW in Austin, Texas, the filmmaker's hometown.
