Emily Blunt in talks to star as Disney’s Mary Poppins

Emily Blunt is officially in talks to star as the new Mary Poppins in Disney's original musical film. The actress has been the clear-cut choice for the role since the project was first announced in September last year, AceShowbiz reports.

Should negotiations go through well, then the film will reunite Blunt with director Rob Marshall who worked with her in Disney's "Into the Woods". The 2014 musical's producers Marc Platt and John DeLuca are also on board the "Mary Poppins" film. David Magee will write the script while Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are in charge of composing the score and original songs.

There are yet details about the new musical take but it is reportedly set about 20 years after the original and is based on the later books in the P. L. Travers series, specifically the ones that continue the nanny's adventures into the Great Depression.

Blunt, who is British, needs not to fake her English accent when taking the role. However, the actress is now pregnant with her second child, making it difficult for her to commit to the film anytime soon. Disney is yet to announce a start date and release schedule for the film but the musical is expected to arrive in theaters next year.
