Steven Soderbergh, Scott Frank reunite for Netflix series “Godless”

Steven Soderbergh continues to build his TV catalog. The multiphyphenate has set his next project at Netflix, reuniting with Out of Sight screenwriter Scott Frank, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

Billed as a limited series, a rare move amid the streamer's aggressive push into original programming, Godless is being executive produced by Soderbergh, Frank and Casey Silver. There aren't many details on the project, and no casting has been set, but it's described as a Western set in 1884.

Frank, who most recently spearheaded FX's ill-fated Hoke pilot, is writing and directing the project. It will be distributed in one-hour episodes and film in Santa Fe, N.M. The long list of Frank-penned screenplays includes Minority Report, The Wolverine, Marley and Me and Out of Sight.

The latter, which starred Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney, was something of a breakout for director Soderbergh. He adds Godless to a growing slate of series, which includes Amazon's Red Oaks, Cinemax's The Knick and upcoming Starz serial The Girlfriend Experience.

It's a bit of a new move for Netflix. Aside from the recently announced Gilmore Girls revival, the streamer has not been pushing much into limited projects — favoring open-ended series with multiple seasons.
