Michael Fassbender set to return for “Assassin's Creed” sequel

"Assassin's Creed" will not hit theaters until December, but its sequel has reportedly been in the works. As AceShowbiz reports citing The Tracking Board, New Regency has already started developing the follow-up film and tapped Michael Fassbender for it.

The two-time Academy Award nominee is returning as Callum Lynch, who discovers that his ancestor Aguilar, from 15th century Spain, was an Assassin. Callum relives Aguilar's memories to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to confront the Templars - age-old enemies of the Assassins - in the present day.

Fassbender will also be attached to the sequel as a producer alongside producing partner Conor McGaughan. Jean-Julien Baronnet is producing for Ubisoft Motion Pictures while Frank Marshall is producing through his Kennedy-Marshall Company.

The first "Assassin's Creed" is slated to be released worldwide on December 21. The movie is set in the same world as Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed" video games, but is not a direct adaptation. Directed by Justin Kurzel, it also stars Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, Ariane Labed and Jeremy Irons.
