In quite possibly the most impressive news of the day, science fiction has become a reality, Digital Spy said.

While teleportation is still only a reality in the pages of fiction and Hollywood, Microsoft has just about pulled off holoportation.

Holoportation is a 3D, real-time hologram that can interact with you as though the person is right there in the same room - pretty impressive.

To get the hologram to work you have to pop on Microsoft's HoloLens Headset, while the other person stands near a special camera to capture their movements.

So, it's still pretty limited, but a definite step in the right sci-fi direction, Digital Spy said.

Microsoft's HoloLens is available to pre-order now and will set you back a whopping $3000. “So obviously you'll have to decide if having your mates as holograms wandering around your living room is worth the hefty price tag,” Digital Spy said.
