No Armenian, Azerbaijani Presidents’ meeting scheduled: OSCE envoy

The OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs don’t plan a meeting between Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, the U.S. Co-chair said, according to media reports.

“However, we are ready to support the active dialogue between the leaders in the current year,” Ambassador James Warlick was quoted as saying. “On behalf of the other mediators, I am going to meet with the Presidents separately to discuss the Nagorno Karabakh peace process.”

President Sargsyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev met on December 19 last year in Bern, Switzerland.

The Presidents’ private talks lasted a little more than an hour: the meeting was held behind closed doors, with the Co-chairs and Foreign Ministers joining the leaders afterwards.

The two leaders met against the backdrop of escalation along the contact line between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan.
