Hulu working on a live-streaming TV channel

Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins confirmed rumblings that his streaming service is developing live TV channels – a potentially major shift in its business model, Digital Spy said.

Speaking at the Hulu upfronts presentation on May 4, Hopkins addressed widespread speculation that a live programming option is in the works.

"We're going to fuse the best of live TV and on-demand," he told the press.

However, Hopkins did not directly address reports that Hulu's owners Disney, 21st Century Fox and Comcast's NBCUniversal will be offering their programming as part of the live service.

If this shift is made, it will move Hulu from strictly being a Netflix-style on-demand model to a hybrid like Sling TV or the PlayStation-owned Vue.

To date, Hulu adds programming from Fox, Disney and NBC hours after those shows air on television.

The potentially game-changing move comes as Hulu works on its own ambitious programming slate – having an Elisabeth Moss-starring Handmaid's Tale, the Hugh Laurie medical drama Chance and more of The Mindy Project coming up.
