Apple will not be eliminating downloads from iTunes any time soon, Digital Spy said.

Reports emerged on Wednesday (May 11) that Apple was considering halting its sale of music downloads in the next few years, as users trend more and more towards streaming.

However, an Apple spokesperson quickly assured ReCode that any such rumours of the iTunes download demise are "not true".

Music downloads dropped significantly from $2.8 billion to $2.3 billion from 2013 to 2015 alone, as more and more people turn to streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify and TIDAL for their favourite tunes.

Apple revolutionised the pay-per-download music service with its launch of iTunes back in 2001 - and over the last 15 years led the way for the rise of digital music.
