Fresh Syria airstrikes kill at least 12 in Rastan

Two opposition activist groups are reporting that an air raid on a central Syrian town has killed at least 12 people, including children, the Associated Press reports.

The Local Coordination Committees said Wednesday, May 18's air raid on the town of Rastan killed 12 people, while the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that 13 were killed, including a family of parents, their two sons and four daughters.

An amateur video posted by activists online showed several bodies, including those of three children, placed on the floor and covered with a sheet.

The video appeared genuine and corresponded to other Associated Press reporting of the events.

The airstrikes came a day after a similar attack on Rastan, which was one of the first areas to rise up against President Bashar Assad's government in 2011.
