Azerbaijan "had to stop Karabakh war with Putin playing major role"

Azerbaijan was forced to stop the recent four-day war in Nagorno Karabakh, and Russian President Vladimir Putin played a major role in it, local media cited National Adviser to the President of Azerbaijan on Social and Political Issues Ali Hasanov as saying Monday, May 30.

“The international law requires the conflict to be resolved peacefully,” Hasanov said.

“Azerbaijan was thus forced to stop the war.”

Armenian and Azerbaijani President met in Vienna on May 16, with top diplomats from Russia, France and the United States mediating the summit as OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs. The sides agreed to finalize in the shortest possible time an OSCE investigative mechanism. The Presidents also agreed to the expansion of the existing Office of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office. Also, they agreed to continue the exchange of data on missing persons under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
