NATO has a rather large cooperation program with Armenia, which proceeds from the interests of both parties, George Katsirdakis, Head of Section, Defense Policy and Planning Division of NATO stated in Yerevan. He said, a cooperation is scheduled in spheres of fight against terrorism and information exchange. "All this is included in the Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP). Here in Yerevan I met with representatives of National Security Service, Police, Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense. During those meetings we discussed various aspects of cooperation," Katsirdakis said.

At the same time he underlined that according to his information Armenia does not going to become a NATO member-state. "As I have repeatedly stated on behalf of the Alliance participation in IPAP is not anyhow connected with membership to the organization. The countries, which wish to become NATO member-states, like Ukraine and Georgia, will work according to another schedule. As to Georgia, first of all she must normalize her relations with neighboring countries and Russia and then to declare about the intention to become a NATO member-state. We are not going to become a participant of confrontation, NATO has other tasks. In any cases Georgia will not become a NATO member-country in 2008, it's a long process," Katsirdakis concluded.
