32 million Twitter passwords apparently leaked

Some 32 million Twitter passwords have apparently been leaked - but the social media website has denied being hacked, Digital Spy said.

The login details appeared to have been obtained by hackers from malware.

A Twitter spokesperson said (via TechCrunch): "We are confident that these usernames and credentials were not obtained by a Twitter data breach – our systems have not been breached.

"In fact, we've been working to help keep accounts protected by checking our data against what's been shared from recent other password leaks."

To help keep people safe and accounts protected, we've been checking our data against what's been shared from recent password leaks.

LeakedSource blogged that it received a total of 32,888,300 records from a person, which included email addresses, usernames, and passwords.

Russia appeared to be heavily affected, while the most common password was '123456' (120,417 accounts), followed by '123456789' (32,775 accounts), 'qwerty' (22,770 accounts), and 'password' (17,471 accounts).
