The Turkish military says its fighter jets have struck Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq and in southeast Turkey, the Associated Press reports.

It said Wednesday, June 22 that the aerial raids hit 15 targets the previous day in Iraq's Metina and Zap regions. The strikes reportedly took out bunkers, shelters and ammunition stores belonging to an outlawed armed Kurdish movement.

The military also say that airstrikes hit 20 similar targets in Turkey's southeastern provinces of Diyarbakir and Hakkari Tuesday evening.

The bombing runs are part of ongoing operations against rebels linked to the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, AP says.

A 2 1/2-year ceasefire between the Turkish state and the Kurdish rebels collapsed mid-2015. Since then, the Turkish army has conducted large scale security operations in the southeast and periodically bombs PKK positions in northern Iraq.
