OSCE mission: fires in Karabakh caused by dry and hot weather
Fires that covered the territories adjacent to the NKR armed forces' contact line in June-September 2006 were conditioned by abundant precipitation in winter and hot dry weather in early spring, OSCE coordinator for ecology and economy Bernard Snow said quoting the OSCE mission's report. The fires caused ecological and economic damage and jeopardized people's health and security, according to him. In some cases, absence of equipment and lack of experience complicated extinguishing. Land mines as well as tension between the armed forces also impeded struggle against the fires, reports APA.
